The Affirm Her Conference: Empowering the Woman Within
June 2, 2026 · 3 min read

Some gatherings inform you. Others remind you who you are.
The Affirm Her Conference was the second kind: a celebration of the woman within, and a space for women to affirm their identity, their purpose, and the community that holds them up.
Temitope Taiwo, founder of Her̀tunbí, joined the conversation to speak on leadership, confidence, and the power of collaboration for women building careers in tech and finance.
The Woman Within
Much of the conversation around women’s leadership focuses on what can be seen: titles, promotions, stages, and achievements. The session turned attention to what cannot always be seen: the inner work that makes visible leadership possible.
Confidence, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose are not personality traits that some women have and others lack. They are built, often quietly, through experience, reflection, support, and the decision to keep going.
Affirming the woman within means recognising that work, and giving it the same value we give to external success.
Confidence Is a Practice
One of the key themes of the session was that confidence does not always come before action. Often, it comes because of it.
Many women wait until they feel completely ready before applying for a role, speaking up in a meeting, or starting something new. But readiness is frequently built in motion. Every time a woman takes a step despite uncertainty, she gathers evidence that she is capable.
The encouragement was clear: do not wait to feel fearless. Take the next step, and let confidence catch up.
Leading in Tech and Finance
Tech and finance remain industries where women are underrepresented, especially in senior and decision-making roles. That reality can make the journey feel isolating.
The session explored practical ways women can lead in these spaces: building strong technical and financial literacy, seeking out mentors and sponsors, making their work visible, and advocating for themselves and for the women coming after them.
Leadership, in this sense, is not only about reaching the top. It is about how you use your position, whatever it is, to open doors for others.
Collaboration Over Competition
A recurring message throughout the conference was the power of women working together.
When opportunities feel scarce, it can be tempting to see other women as competition. But communities grow stronger when women share knowledge, recommend one another, celebrate each other’s wins, and build together.
Collaboration multiplies impact. One woman’s breakthrough can become a pathway for many others.
Showing Up, and Showing Out
What made the Affirm Her Conference memorable was the energy of the women in the room. They came ready to listen, to share, to connect, and to be affirmed. They showed up for themselves, and for each other.
That is the kind of community Her̀tunbí exists to build: one where women are seen, supported, and reminded of their worth, not once, but again and again.
Carrying the Message Forward
The conference may have ended, but its message continues. Affirm the woman you are. Invest in the woman you are becoming. And never underestimate what becomes possible when women build together.
Thank you to the organisers of the Affirm Her Conference and to every woman who made the day what it was.
